Our Breeding Program
 |
Indian Summer Alpacas
believes in quality alpacas. Our Breeding program has been designed to
emphasize quality of fiber, conformation, purity of color and temperament.
We give special emphasis to an alpacas quality
of health and consistency in production of superior progeny.
At Indian Summer Alpacas, we constantly strive
to improve the alpaca through meticulous selection & breeding practices. Our herd
represents no specific country of origin. It simply represents what we feel are
some of the finest quality alpacas available. Our Foundation herd has been
carefully selected from several of the top breeding farms across the country.
We
buy from large and small farms alike. We
scout alpacas where we feel quality
will be found. |
Our goal is
simple,
to breed the best Alpaca possible. We know our alpacas come from
and generate some of the highest quality possible.
We're very proud of our alpacas. We participate in
just about every Alpaca show we can.
Several of our alpacas have been in front of 4-6 different
judges who are both Nationally and Internationally known in the alpaca industry.
The Herdsires on our farm, as an example, have been in front of roughly 6 judges
each. All our Herdsires have received multiple Blue Ribbons and even
Championships. We do feel our show ring results help serve as a guide to
the quality we consistently produce here on our farm.
So far we feel we're meeting our goal of breeding the best
alpaca possible.

The People Behind Indian Summer
Alpacas..........
|
"If
you recognize the name "Romanik" or "Indian Summer
Alpacas" you must be doing something right!
Floyd and Ana Romanik
are a living
model of the old adage "You reap what you sow".
Indian Summer Alpacas'
mammoth list of show awards, superior breeding program
and the Romanik's accolades, come as no
surprise when you take a look at their
dedicated involvement in the industry. One of the
farms slogans is "Breeders of Award Winning Huacaya & Suri Alpacas".
All one has to do is glance at their wall of Ribbons to know this is true.
Their success is due to dedication and hard work coupled with a genuine
enthusiasm and adoration for the Alpaca and the industry.
Very early
on, Ana and Floyd recognized that immersing
themselves in all
aspects of the industry could only launch their
alpaca business in one direction -
success. From holding the ranks of AOBA
National Conference
Chair in 2000 & Co-chair in
1999 to the less glamorous,
but very important former President of NEAOBA (New
England Alpaca Assn) they have wisely put
themselves in the
"thick" of things.
There is a lesson to be learned in
volunteerism. "

From Floyd & Ana Romanik
|
Prior to alpacas, Floyd and I had never been in the
livestock business. If you told us 6 years ago we would be living on a farm and
raising alpacas we would have wondered what you were drinking.
But, here we are
sitting on our farm. We’re also sitting on what is still the ground floor of a
industry that has been growing exponentially since the first alpacas came to the
this country in 1985.
From our beginnings we have been heavily involved in
this industry through volunteerism in local as well as national alpaca
organizations. We found that this was the best way for us to learn what it takes
to succeed. Today, I’m the primary person involved with the day-to-day farm
operation. However, my husband, Floyd is very involved as well. In addition to
his “Day Job” designing submarines as a principal engineer with General
Dynamics, Floyd handles the pasture management on the farm and the financial end
of our alpaca business. I have a background in Sales & Marketing, along with a
long history of dog breeding. I handle the husbandry of 70+ alpacas along with
Marketing and Business Management of the overall farm. My chief project
currently is to finish my Alpaca Judge Training. I should become an AOBA
Certified Alpaca Judge sometime in 2002. Both
Floyd and I continue with our
volunteer projects within the industry.
All the hard work seems to have has paid off.
In a
relatively short amount of time, we’ve been blessed to be able to turn Indian
Summer Alpacas into a strong and thriving business. We operate a full
service farm with breeding and boarding services in addition to the Sale of Show
Quality Breeding Stock.
If you ask our customers, they would say the reason
they purchased from us was our commitment to them. We firmly believe that our
customer’s success is our success. Our dedication to customer support and
continuing education is key to the health of their animals and their business.
We work as a team with each and every one of our customers.
Please feel free to call with questions & visit the
farm. Our door is always open!
Sincerely,
Floyd & Ana Romanik
